Demi Utaraviciute celebrates Women in Trade Day (Worldwide) holding her decorators brush.
WITDW: Briefly tell us about your tool, how important it is. Why and when you use it?
Demi: One of my favourite tools is my decorators brush. I normally use rollers for large surfaces to achieve super smooth and even finishes but, it can’t deal with small corners and awkward edges, it makes a huge difference in my work.
WITDW: What project are you currently working on?
Demi: I’m working on a two-part cocktail cabinet that will be painted with an amazing big scale artwork – an antique portrait of a lady holding her pet.
WITDW: How will you be celebrating the day?
Demi: I will have a day off as I don’t have much time for myself. And of course, will spread the word about Women in Trade Day in fields that are traditionally male dominated. Very happy to watch things changing – knitting men and female blacksmiths.
WITDW: What tips can you give to someone wishing to get into your trade?
Demi: Learn from and experienced person – it will save a lot of time and effort. Courses are a brilliant tool! I found simple conversations with people in my trade reassuring. Never give up, even if things look scary.
WITDW: What 3 things can you not live without?
Demi: 1. After discovering furniture upcycling, I could not live without freedom to create and improvise. 2. Audiobooks! I love listening to interest reads whilst working. 3. The supportive network of people that I have around me as I believe that no one achieved massive things alone.
